Abortion: school topic

妊娠中絶（ にんしんちゅうぜつ）について

水曜日に　 英語のディベートを　教えています。　１０人の先生が　います。昨日、　 英語ディベート　クラス　の後で、　４人の 英語ディベートの先生たち　　は　話していました。

「生徒は　 妊娠中絶　（にんしんちゅうぜつ）に　ついて　話したがらない」と、　私は　ほかの先生に　言いました。

「ほんとうですか。　私は　 女子校　（じょしこう）で教えていまが、そこの生徒は　妊娠中絶　（にんしんちゅうぜつ）　の話をしたがります」と　ひとりの先生は　言いました。

「ほかの大学で　 妊娠した女子大生のために、　学生たちは　 募金活動に協力しました. 私が驚いたので、男子学生は　 「秘密にするように」と頼みました。

われわれ教師がその妊娠中絶の話をしていると、　日本人の先生がコーヒーを飲むためにちかづいてきました。コーヒーサーバーはわれわれ英語の教師のそばにありました。

日本人の先生は　英語の先生の話に　いらいらしているようでしたが、何も　言いません　でした。　私も　英語の先生の　態度にいらいらしていました。

「その話は　少し　気恥ずかしいから止めてくれない？」と　私は　言いたかったのですが、　 何も　言いませんでした。

About abortion

Wednesday, I teach a debate class. There are 10 teachers. Yesterday, after the debate class, four of us talked.

“My students don’t want to discuss abortion,” I said to the other teachers.

“A student　at a girls’ high school said she was grateful to have the opportunity in class to talk about abortion,” one of the other debate teachers said. “She had had an abortion.”

“At another university, students took up a collection for an abortion for a pregnant student. Because I expressed surprised, a boy took me aside and said, ‘Don’t make a big deal about this. It’s a kind of secret; nobody identifies the girl.’”

While we were talking, a Japanese teacher walked near us to get coffee. I thought that he looked irritated with the discussion, but he didn’t say anything. 　I, too, felt irritated with the tone of the discussion.

“Could we drop the subject,” I wanted to say. But I did not say anything.
